To me one of the most difficult times in our lives is when we are in a season that God remains silent, definitely when we are going through a tough situation. It leaves us feelings hopeless, rejected, and in despair when it seems everything is going wrong and our help is no where to be found. We become upset in this season not only because we feel stuck, but we think God has left us.
You are not alone, we not all go trough this season, but a man named Heman wrote about great despair in Pslams 88. He prayed to God four different times and no answer. A lot of psalms begin with despair and end with joy, but not quite this one. Some may even question why is it even in the Bible, because there is no joy nor encouragement. But, we could really learn something from him. Before he ever began to tell us about all his cries and all his despondency he acknowledges that he is the God of salvation. Each night and day he cries out to God, because even if he is silent it does not mean he is absent.
God works behind the scenes when we cannot see. We shouldn't be deceived by the enemy, Satan is a liar, and the father of it! Nothing is greater than whom our helps comes from. Heman was near death, he was so sick, but he prayed to the very one who could raise the dead. When we are going through a storm in our life we need to pray that God will bring us through it, because it could be the very thing that saves your family or your friends. With our pain it normally brings purpose. Do as Heman did, wait on God in your deepest despair. Let him show you himself greater. A lot of times God will become silent so that we can learn to listen, because we have a habit of running to different things when despair comes knocking.
I heard a preacher say that lonliness and a call to prayer share the same emotion, but instead of praying we run to social media. Prayer is the greatest privilege that we have, but it also one of the most neglected things we do. It is so easy to lose hope in our troubles. Even Heman couldn't promise joy in the morning, but he still tells us where his salvation comes from, an he still sings and prays.
Someone else that comes to mind is Job. Satan did everything he could do to put him in deep despair but it was by Gods permission that it could happen. God did not do it because he disliked Job, but because he considered him. God knew he could trust him with whatever storm was thrown his way. Don’t let Gods consideration steal your faith. Some things we go through we mistake as warefar but really it is just a test from God. Whatever we go through whatever despair, let us never forget who is the way the truth an the life. He is our salvation.
