Speak Life

Think for a moment, has your mouth ever gotten you in trouble? Have you ever ‘Stuck your foot in your mouth?’ I’m sure we all have made mistakes and kept our tongues unbridled. Scripture says in James chapter three verse eight, “But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.” We are living in a day and age that people have to bridle their tongues more than ever because people are easily offended. I recall a scripture that says, “Then shall many be offended, and shall betray on another, and shall hate one another.” Matthew chapter twenty-four lays out a crazy picture of what is to come in the last days. This passage even goes on to say, “And then shall the end come.” This offense is the beginning of the end, but that does not give us a hall-pass as Christians to willfully offend people. I have heard before, “We’ll if you get offended by that you have your feelings on your sleeve”, I have even made this statement before unfortunately. We as christians are getting closer and closer to the world by how we think, act, and most importantly, how we speak.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

- Proverbs 18:21

Proverbs lays this out perfectly! My question is: what love is the scripture speaking of? The Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the whole bible defines that love as: the tongue, or it’s love for good or evil. I believe we, today, have become intoxicated with the power we wield in the tongue. This great weapon, the scripture defines it as fire that stains the whole body, it evens goes so far as to say, “it is set on fire by Hell.” This weapon we wield has the power to offset the course of lives with one breath, so how will you use it. I challenge you today to speak life into every situation in your life, and to those around you. Don’t be intoxicated with the power you wield with the tongue, because it was never to be your power in the first place. Let the spirit lead and guide you… and your tongue!
