As a child we all had problems cleaning our room, but it is a part of childhood. Likewise, when we became adults there is another thing we like to clutter, that is our mind and heart. The world likes to tell us how to meditate, and it seems nice, but its not what we should do, it won’t truly help us. The word meditation comes from the Latin word meditari, it means a couple of things including to reflect on, to study, and to practice.

Teachings in the Eastern and Western Christian churches have acknowledged the use of the Christian meditation as the way to increase ones knowledge of Christ. This mediation is the form of prayer in which we can become more aware of the revelations of God. Here is some ways the world likes to meditate: mindlessly repeating a single word or phrase to gain some sort of altered state, burning candles, or sitting calmly on a rug and listening to music. As much as I love yoga, its not that either.

Mediation is not only used to focus on the word of God, but it is used to quiet and calm our hearts with scripture and a deeper love. Meditation makes our wonder and thought even greater. If we lose our wonder our relationship with God is probably lost as well. One of our problems is, we think we can have a relationship with God when we do all the talking. We don’t give him any room to talk to us.

“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.” Psalms 19:14 While the Bible educates us, it should also persuade and enhance our heart in the hardest of times.

CHALLENGE: Let true mediation remind you of his goodness and mercy. When troubles arise I don’t want it to clutter my mind nor my heart but I want to dive into the word and mediate until peace. “ My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD”. Psalms 104:34
