Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV) Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
August 30th, 2018 6:30 AM, I received the most horrifying phone call in my life. My mother, on the other end had said, “Jordon, come to your aunt’s house hurry.” I knew something was wrong. When I got to my Aunt’s, cop cars where present. My mother looked at me and said, “Son, your aunt was in a car accident and she didn’t make it.” That’s when my life made a drastic turn. I had then hit rock bottom. I told you this story to tell you that in this time frame I was getting ready to teach a youth class and Proverbs 3:6 kept entering into my mind. Little did I know, I would fully experience the true meaning of the verse. I’ve always heard God has a purpose and a reason for everything. I was broken, hurt, and angry. God was working on my spirit in this time of struggle. He began to unveil ministries in my life that I’ve run from for years. There were three things about this situation mentioned that stuck out to me:
1. A man headed to work that doesn’t normally go the same path as my aunt,
suddenly feels the urge to travel the same path this particular morning.
He was the first to arrive at the crash minutes after it happened. He prayed
with her as long as he could. The man told us later that he felt so many angels surrounding the scene of the crash.
2. A family member who we’ve been trying to win to the Lord. His eyes were open to how short life is in our short time here on earth. He began to come to church, was baptized, received the Holy Ghost, and now is living for God.
3. My life has changed as well. I’ve also realized how short life is and God pricked my heart. I ran from the ministry for years because I was afraid of what the outcome would be. I didn’t understand at the time. I am now living for God to the fullest. A lot of times we don’t understand the will of God and the purposes in our life. Sometimes we have to go through hard times and it may seem like there’s no end. God said he wouldn’t put no more on us than what we couldn’t handle. Going through life we think it’s too much or life is too hard.
God works for our good. We may not think so at the moment, but the bible states, “Lean not to thy own understanding.” It’s not my will, but thy will be done. So as we embark on life; to understand the will of God is to trust in him fully even when we may not understand our purpose in life.
I look back on the disciples following Jesus and his ministry preaching and
teaching the gospel world wide. Clearly there’s been times where understanding the voice of God were challenging because we’re all
flesh as well. So we have to put our fleshly desires away and strive
to be like Jesus.
Challenge: So remember to understand the will of God for our lives. We have to realize God works for our good in everything we do, even if we may not understand.
